What I Tell My Children Every Night

Every night since my daughter was born I have whispered the same three phrases in her ear: “I love you, I’m proud of you, I would give anything for you.”

When my son was born, I started saying the exact same thing to him, every single night.

The words they hear over and over again will be the words they hear when life gets hard. I want these words ringing in their ears.

I love you - regardless of anything.

I’m proud of you - even before you’ve accomplished anything.

I’d give anything for you - because I really would.

These are not just words for them, but words for me. They are promises that I am bound to and reminded of every single night.

There is one phrase I have added recently, and its the most important one.

“May the Lord Jesus Christ keep you close to himself.”
