The Necessity of Time Away
I have been taking time away from the podcast and the writing for almost 7 weeks now. I was very much in need of a sabbatical of some kind with the birth of our new son, finishing school, moving, and getting spiritually crushed (this is a good thing, call it new wine and sing the song by Hillsong).
I didn’t just take time away from recording and writing. I took time away from the news, new commentary, most of my reading, and even dreaming about the future.
I tell people all the time they must know what they believe and why. One thing I was noticing though was that I had become unacquainted with my beliefs that root me and ground me in this world. I had taken them for granted, forgotten about them, and realized I was so unfamiliar with my beliefs and the One I hope in… well. I was about as strong as someone who doesn’t know what they believe.
That was shocking.
I put everything on hold except reacquainting myself with the Lord, with prayer, and with the core beliefs I hold dear.
