I was an intern a church back in 2017. It was a 9 month program full of growth and challenge and opportunity. Nine months of no pay, living on donations, trusting God, growing in prayer, and wondering what all this was all for. It was exciting and full of purpose; my intern class walked with an anticipation of what God was going to do with us, for us, and through us.

At this particular church, the founding pastor was not the lead Pastor. The founding pastor, to this day one of the wisest men I have encountered, decided he wanted to take all the interns on a trip to Springfield, Missouri. How exciting right? He wanted some time with all of us away from the busyness of church work. This was also a way to close out our internship. The program would be over in a few weeks and we all would find out if we were moving on to the next stage of the program (another year) or if we would be going to find a different job. He knew which interns were going to be invited back for the next stage, but …
