10 days. That’s how long the project was supposed to take. Instead it took 29. The owner reminded the project manager of the timeline with every frustrated text. It was a simple home project. Move out the furniture, refinish the floors, repaint all damaged baseboards and stairs, move the furniture back. 1 day to move furniture, 5 to refinish, 3 to paint, 1 to move the furniture. 10 days.
Everyone was given their assignment a month in advance. Materials were delivered early and the owner had made themselves comfortable in the basement. Day 1, the furniture was moved in a few hours. Day 2, the floor guys showed up. Day 6, the floors were done and ready to be inspected. Then, things went south.
