I Built A Table for My Children
I have three beautiful children 4 and under. This past spring I began to have the urge to do “dad things” - to teach my son to throw a ball, to read them more than picture books, and to teach them about life. At the tender age of 2 and 4, neither of my first two children were interested in such things. My son screams, “I do it myself” as he throws a ball behind him instead of forward. My daughter called my book collection “boring” compared to her Minnie Mouse book collection. I tried to teach both of them that every time they took a toy from each other, they were breaking two of God’s top ten rules (stealing and covetousness) which was met with blank stares, dumbfounded looks, and an earthquake eyeroll from my bride.
I needed a different “dad thing” to do for my children. Each of them loves crafts – coloring, stickers, glue, popsicle sticks, more glue, and painting. They had been using the kitchen table for all of the crafting activities with mom watching closely so no one fell off of …
