A Man Named Fool
As his name is, so is he.
Someone pissed David off. He was riding with 400 men to exact vengeance on a man who had insulted him. He was ready to strike. As he rode, sword in hand, he muttered to himself, “surely I have guarded this man and all he has in vain. And he returns this evil to me? God do so to David and more also, if by morning I leave so much as one male of all who belong to him.” Whoever it is that pissed David off was about to pay for it with his life and with the life of his servants.
The man is named Fool. Nabal, he was called, which means fool. According to his wife, he was as he was named. He was rich and he is described as churlish and ill behaved. Churlish is not a common word but it means rude, impolite, mean spirited, bad tempered, and harsh. His servants considered him worthless because he listened to no one.
